I came across this video last night on Cameron Moll's blog Authentic Boredom. Cameron has great stuff on his site and contests, in which I won a year subscription to TypeKit. Thank's Cameron! Anyway. Michael Bierut is one of the most exciting designers to listen too. It is easy to see that his success as a designer come from his understanding of his role in the designer client exchange.
Finding this video helped reinforce a topic a friend and I were talking about the other day. Too many people in this world jump to the conclusion that the way to remidy an issue or solve a problem is to see what others aren't doing. But I feel real understanding people look inward and ask the question, "What is it that I can do to make this better." Although your efforts may not change the outcome of a solution, an unselfish way of thinking will bring honesty and understanding to the entire problem solving process. If you havn't hear Michael speak before, check out Design Observer. Most notably the show Design Matters with Debbie Millman
